Dr. Tony Shao

Dr. Andrew Abi-Chaker, vascular surgeon of SCMSC in Los Angeles
Dr. Tony Shao is a double board-certified vascular surgeon, now practicing in the San Fernando Valley.

He was born and raised in New York City. He attended the highly competitive Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education which has an accelerated 7-year B.S / M.D program. He obtained his medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate Medical School in 2013. He stayed in the New York area and started his career in surgery. He attended the Northwell Hofstra School of Medicine General Surgery Program (NY’s largest health care system). During his general surgery training, he developed a passion for vascular surgery. Following his completion of residency in 2018, he moved to Miami, Florida for vascular training. He attended the University of Miami / Jackson Health System Vascular Surgery Fellowship Program.

In Miami, he was trained to all aspects of vascular surgery, from dialysis assess to complex open aortic surgery. He received advanced training in vascular emergencies and trauma at the world-renowned Ryder Trauma Center. He was trained in open, endovascular and hybrid techniques.

After completing his vascular training in 2020, he joined the faculty at the University of Miami as Assistant Professor of Surgery.

During his employment at UM, he honed his skills and gained invaluable experience. He has practiced all aspects of vascular surgery including: peripheral arterial disease (open and endovascular), aortic aneurysms (open and endovascular), carotid atherosclerosis (open and endovascular), hemodialysis access, thoracic outlet syndrome (rib resection), spine exposures, venous disease. He is known for his dedication to his patients and his excellent bedside manner. He can speak Spanish and Mandarin Chinese.

His passions include limb salvage, aortic aneurysms, and thoracic outlet syndrome.

When he is not seeing patients, he enjoys playing tennis and traveling.
