Dr. Stephanie Young
MD/MPH | Surgical Oncologist
Dr. Stephanie Young, MD MPH is a board-certified surgeon who specializes in complex general surgical oncology. Her expertise in cancer diagnosis and management allows her to treat innumerable conditions ranging from diseases involving the gastrointestinal tract, liver-pancreas-bile duct system, to breast cancers, endocrine disorders, skin cancers, and soft tissue conditions. Given the constantly evolving frontiers in cancer treatment, it is imperative for any provider to stay updated on cancer treatment guidelines. For this reason, Dr. Young not only maintains a busy surgical practice but is also heavily involved in clinical research, having published over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles and presented research at over 30 conferences in her career thus far. Her research interests include peritoneal surface malignancy and cytoreductive surgery/heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), as well as clinical outcomes in minimally invasive hepatobiliary surgery. Dr. Young is also trained in laparoscopic and robotic surgery and strives to provide her patients with advanced treatment options whenever possible.
A native of Northern California, Dr. Young attended the University of Pennsylvania for her undergraduate degree and received her Master’s in Public Health at Columbia University. She worked in healthcare consulting for several years in San Francisco prior to moving to Los Angeles to attend medical school at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Committed to providing the utmost quality care to the greater Los Angeles community, she completed her general surgery residency at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center and two years of specialized surgical oncology training at Saint John’s (formerly John Wayne) Cancer Institute in Santa Monica. To continue her education, Dr. Young is an active member of the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, American Society of Breast Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association.
When she is not busy treating her cancer patients, Dr. Young enjoys spending time with her family, listening to live music, exploring LA’s restaurant scene, and traveling the globe to learn about different cultures.
